Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures
At Crystal Creek Public School, we recognise and value the enduring connections Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to Country, culture, community and identity. We are committed to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures respectfully and authentically across our curriculum and school life, recognising the rich knowledge, perspectives and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through meaningful learning experiences, we seek to build understanding, respect and appreciation among all students, while creating opportunities for students to develop a strong sense of connection to place and community. We are committed to working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, community members and local knowledge holders to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are represented with respect, integrity and authenticity.
As you enter Crystal Creek Public School, you are welcomed by a series of Cultural Story Poles that celebrate the deep connections between Culture, People and Country. Each pole represents an important aspect of Aboriginal identity, knowledge and connection, creating a meaningful and visible acknowledgement of Aboriginal histories and cultures within our school environment. The artwork was created in 2023 by local Indigenous artist Chloe Kane, bringing local perspectives and cultural knowledge into our school grounds. QR codes located alongside the Cultural Story Poles provide further information about the meaning and significance of each artwork, inviting students, families and visitors to learn more about the stories, symbols and connections represented.
